physiquelineup-250.jpgGay Games ambassadors are looking forward to meeting and greeting prospective athletes and spectators at Midsumma’s Carnival Day, January 17.

Ji Wallace (silver medallist in trampolining at the 2000 Sydney Olympics) and Michelle Ferris (double silver in track cycling) will be on hand to spread the word about the international sports and cultural festival.

According to the Cologne organisers of Gay Games 2010 there has been a rise in registrations for gay and lesbian athletes from Australia this year.

Competition sports including badminton, basketball, body-building (pictured), bowling, cycling, dance sport, golf, hockey, martial arts, softball, shooting, squash, swimming, track and field, volleyball and water polo are already attracting higher numbers than expected at this time.

The Gay Games 2010 will take place in Cologne, Germany, from July 31 to August 7, and is expected to attract some 12,000 participants from more than 70 countries.

The Games motto is “Be part of it!” and participation is open to all regardless of sexuality, gender identity, race, religion, politics and physical capabilities.

Gay Games spokesperson Philipp Lischke said, “It’s not just about winning, as the Games vision is for participation, inclusion and personal best.”

Apart from Carnival Day January 17, Gay Games ambassadors will also be attending Chill Out at Daylesford on March 7.
