SAM SPARRO [UMA]
Regular readers will be well aware of my total fascination with Swedish electropop star Robyn. Well, now I have a male equivalent, and even better, he’s gay; a brother, or more appropriately, a sister, of the gay community.
Sam was born in Sydney, grew up in LA and now resides in London. His trans-global lifestyle reflects the ultra-hip pop of his self-titled, debut album. Sam Sparro is just too good for words, but let me give it a red-hot go. Nestled amongst the shiny disco is the poptastic social statement ‘21st Century Life’ (surely a single itching for a release), the sideways Prince workout ‘Hot Mess’, the elastic sex groove of ‘Clingwrap’, the pot-smokers curse, ‘Cottonmouth’, and the stomping house revenge ‘Cut Me Loose’.
A superlative debut release.
