If the title One Hit Wonders doesn’t get your gay gene stirring, then perhaps the suggestion that this collection is a spin-off from His Royal Campness Molly Meldrum’s Countdown will. Spread across the two CDs are a hilarious selection of historical pop nasties from fashion disasters like MC Hammer, Kajagoogoo, Marilyn (sadly not ‘Calling Your Name’), Plastic Bertrand, Aussie style-meister James Freud and Madonna’s ex-shag, Vanilla Ice. Plus there’s your school formal favourites ‘Tainted Love’, ‘Footloose’, ‘Funkytown’, ‘Axel F’, ‘Never-ending Story’ and of course, ’99 Luftballoons’. Visual desperados will drool over the bonus DVD also included in this essential set of light-hearted stupidity. If only we were allowed to breed, it would a great family heirloom.
