TORI MAC [REALLY PINK RECORDS]
I’ve never kept it a secret that I have a love/hate relationship with the Cult of Celebrity controlling our western world. Our worth is measured by our fame, our money and our beauty, not the things that really count in life. But everyone knows you can’t buy cool, no matter how metallic in colour your Amex is. Cool is inherent, a subtlety, an understated quality that needs not be worked on. It just comes naturally.
Aussie lesbian DJ Tori Mac has celebrated the good and the bad of fame on this bleeping dance track, ‘Famous’. Built around a plink plonk drum loop and tickedy-tock synths, the cynical lyrics would make even Paris blush with humility. However, I think that in a club environment, it may be too clever for its own good, and Ms Mac may be seen as an exponent of the Hollywood lifestyle. Still that’s ok, because it gives the rest of us something to giggle at. Check out the ‘Panties On the Dancefloor’ mix for its fleshy, podium-pumping sound.
